MIRIAM | LIVING WITHOUT LIMITS IS A MATTER OF ATTITUDE

Overcoming, passion and enthusiasm for what one does are the ingredients of this story starring Miriam , a 24-year-old Valencian girl with a 50% intellectual disability.

However, this has never been an impediment for her because she has always accomplished everything she set out to do: study, work and dance .

Thousands of dreams to fulfill

Thousands of dreams to fulfill

Like any child, Miriam grew up with thousands of dreams to fulfill. However, for many, her disability was a limitation, and they were willing to let her know.

"At school, they told me not to get distracted, that I had to focus on the two things I wanted to do at school: gardening or cooking. That wasn't what I wanted to do."

"I'm going to do it"

Turning a deaf ear to the warnings: "Don't do this, you won't be able to do it, you'll waste your time..." Miriam decided not to settle and pursued what she loved most, without setting any limits. Currently, Miriam practices salsa and bachata, and is beginning to dabble in urban dance.

"I love dancing, it's when I feel happiest."

In addition, Miriam combines her passion for dance with her administrative exams, to which she is devoting a great deal of time and effort.

"It's a lot of work, but I feel very, very proud because I know I'm going to achieve it. Sometimes you just need self-confidence."

"I've never been alone"

We know that if anything defines Miriam, it's the effort, dedication, and enthusiasm with which she accomplishes everything she sets out to do. Her family, along with the Tots Junts Podem association, have played a significant role in this journey of self-confidence.

"I've never been alone, my family has always supported me at every turn."

For her part, thanks to Tots Junts Podem and its independent living and leisure program, Miriam has laughed, enjoyed herself, learned to take care of herself independently, and, most importantly, met incredible people who have inspired her to live without limits.

What would you say to your past self?

What would you say to your past self?

When we asked Miriam what she would say to her past self , she was clear:

"If I had to tell my past self something, it would be to not be afraid, to achieve everything I set my mind to, and to set limits for ourselves, never for others or a disability."

And if instead of listening to herself, she had listened to others, Miriam would have settled for what others expected of her and would never have started on the path to fulfilling her dreams: becoming a professional dancer and obtaining a position in public administration, two goals we are sure she will achieve.
