José María Almira | An Awakened Mind

After inventing the umbrella spike, José María has registered a new patent to help his wife.

At 93 years old, José María Almira's mind remains as brilliant as when he patented
the "pin" on the beach umbrella. Now, 34 years later, he's invented an aluminum stand with clips to help Asunción, his life partner, change her underwear, diapers, or pants.

Despite working his entire life in a bank office, José María's "handyman" role never went away.
unnoticed. It was in 1988 when he patented the "spike" on the beach umbrella after it flew away in Santa Pola and injured a girl.

Now, 34 years later, José María has made history again with another patent that has nothing to do with the sun and the beach. His life partner, Asunción, had difficulty dressing herself after damaging her kneecap and several ribs. For this reason, José María designed an aluminum support with clips that helps all those who
people with reduced mobility,
like his wife , to change their underwear, diapers or pants.

«We go every afternoon to see them, but
"He is the one who takes care of his wife," says his granddaughter Claudia.

FROM PROBLEM TO SOLUTION

"After two months of helping my wife change her diapers and underwear with the same movements, I thought about using a device... I'm like that, I go to bed thinking about something , I write it down in a notebook, and the next day I start thinking about it to see if I can figure something out."
